Now into its third year, Kul-Cha Reggae Festival is the first and only festival in Lebanon dedicated to reggae. The two-day festival brings an exceptional program of bands and DJs to the sunny shores of north Lebanon at Camping Amchit for a long weekend of live music and good vibes.
Kul-Cha has grown organically over the last couple of years and 2016 looks set to be the biggest edition yet. It is the first festival of its kind in the Middle East to offer a platform to reggae bands and artists from Lebanon and beyond and captures an exciting time for reggae music in the Arab world, with a growing wave of bands experimenting with the genre and crafting out their own original offshoots with Arabic language lyrics and a fusion of Oriental and rasta rhythms.
With the sea as its backdrop, Kul-Cha will feature live music from local bands and DJs covering everything from roots and ska to afrobeat and ragga.
Camping is offered on site, so festival goers can pitch up and stay for the entire weekend. In addition, the weekend features a whole host of alternative activities from craft workshops and yoga to street art performances, juggling and fire shows and massage sessions.
This year the festival features Rasta Beirut, the five-person Lebanese band who have popularized reggae music in the country will bring their reggae and dancehall rhythms to the Kul-Cha stage. Lebanon's first and only band creating original Arabic reggae music, Rabih and the Playmates are another important element to the festival. They've experimented with reggae, giving it a Middle Eastern touch, fusing reggae beats with Oriental rhythm patterns and have built up a local following of reggae lovers. Rum 'N' Salty are an exceptional duo combo of drums and guitar, always delivering a high energy performance of raw sounds. Percussion group Art Beat bring their infectious West African drum rhythms to the Kul-Cha stage and Arabic-electronic fusion trio TaraBeat will deliver an intoxicating set that combines traditional instruments and melodies with computerized loops and synthesizers.
Added to the mix, local DJs will keep the party going into the early hours with eclectic sets covering everything from bass- heavy beats, dancehall, reggae, roots and ska to soul, funk, afrobeat, jungle and drum n' bass with DJ sets from Tavarish, Radio Weebee, Alassi Abbasi, Jadovski and Dubbas.
