A PHOTOGRAPHER famed for portraits of stars such as Johnny Depp, Yoko Ono and Bob Geldof has sold a picture of a humble potato for €1m (£750,000).
Kevin Abosch, 46, who is based in Dublin and Paris, confirmed this weekend he had sold the print, mounted on an aluminium composite, to a European businessman. He shot the potato on a black background under a single light using a digital camera.
The organic Irish potato, which he photographed in 2010, joins an illustrious portfolio that includes shots of Steven Spielberg, Dustin Hoffman, Michael Palin, Sheryl Sandberg, the Facebook executive, and Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani activist.
As one of the world's most sought-after photographers, Abosch's austere portraits are commissioned at a cost of £200,000 and above.
