Check out how Coffee can cut multiple sclerosis risk

    10 march 2016
Drinking six cups of coffee a day may cut the risk of developing multiple sclerosis, research suggests.
Experts are not sure why coffee protects against the disease - but they suspect that the caffeine is responsible.Caffeine, a central nervous system stimulant, has neuroprotective properties and can suppress the production of chemicals involved in the inflammatory response, describing its association with MS, the researchers explained. The researchers, in the study published online in the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, based their findings on two representative population studies.
The scientists now say they have high hopes for further studies of how coffee affects multiple sclerosis to perhaps come up with some sort of medication for it in the future:
"Further studies are required to longitudinally assess the association between consumption of coffee and disease activity in MS, and to evaluate the mechanisms by which coffee may be acting, which could thus lead to new therapeutic targets."
