    Pele putting 2,000 football items up for auction

    Brazilian legend Pele is to auction off more than 2,000 items of memorabilia charting his dazzling football career, including his three World Cup winners' medals and the ball used when he scored his 1,000th goal.
    Pele said that having donated much of his collection to the city of Santos, he had 'decided to allow fans and collectors to own a piece of my history as well. I hope they treasure these artifacts and share my story with their children and generations to come.'He said a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Pequeno Principe children's hospital in the Brazilian city of Curitiba.
    "I hope they treasure these artifacts and share my story with their children and generations to come."Among the highlights are a copy of the Jules Rimet Trophy, which is expected to fetch between £280,000 and 420,000 and Pele's winner's medals from the 1958, 1962 and 1970 World Cup finals, which are estimated at between £70,000 and £140,000.
    Pele's three World Cup medals are expected to fetch up to £140,700, while the ball with which he scored his thousandth goal is predicted to sell for £30,000 to £40,000.
    Other items, including the makeshift ball made up of socks are being verified ahead of the auction in London, from June 7 to 9.
