    1.Not 'Princess Diana'



    Though everybody and her uncle refers to her as "Princess Diana," that was never her title. (You have to be born a princess, like Princess Anne, to be "Princess plus Name.") While married, she was HRH the Princess of Wales and after her divorce she was Lady Diana, Princess of Wales.

     

     

    2.Common ancestors


    Lady Diana shared several ancestors with Catherine Middleton, making William and Catherine 14th cousins once removed.

     

    3.American ties


    Her great grandmother, Frances Ellen Work, was the daughter of a stockbroker from Ohio.

     

    4.India too

    Her four-times-great grandmother was an Indian from Bombay, though she was often passed off as "Armenian."

     

    5.Presidents



    Diana is distantly related to several presidents: George Washington, Calvin Coolidge, Franklin Roosevelt and the Bushes.

     

    6.Fashion icon



    During her life she was such a fashion icon that when she was photographed wearing Hunter Wellington rubber boots, sales took off.

     

    7.People's



    In a speech after her death, Prime Minister Tony Blair called her the "People's Princess."

     

    8.Burial



    She is burial on a small island in a lake on her family's 500-year-ancestral estate, Althorp, to keep crowds away.

     

    9.Granddaughter



    Her name lives on in her granddaughter, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.[chron]
