From Baalbek to Paris to Hollywood, Zuhair Murad does not fail to surprise us with his amazing work. At the WWD and Variety’s Stylemakers 2016 event, the designer dressed up Jennifer Lopez, Sofia Vergara, Blake Lively and even Barbie. He was honored at this year’s event making him the top fashion designer.
Women were saluted for their fashion sense and urged to be confident and fierce at Variety and Women’s Wear Daily’s second annual Stylemakers luncheon Thursday November 17 at Quixote Studios in West Hollywood.
The event celebrated the intersection of fashion, beauty and entertainment and Zuhair Murad accepted the Fashion Designer Award from Nina Dobrev.
Zuhair Murad’s inspiration comes from his family who all love fashion and he described Lebanese women as really elegant and beautiful in an interview with the Women’s Wear Daily. His favorite Hollywood era is the 40s and 30s where women’s bodies were highlighted with the shape of the drapes like his muse Audrey Hepburn.
Jennifer Lopez actually found his fashion show on TV back in 2010 by chance and asked her stylist to contact Zuhair, because she immediately fell in love with the collection and the designs. Indeed, it matters who wears your dresses in Hollywood especially on the red carpet because the whole world watches the red carpet to see what is trending and it simultaneously boosts your success. Then in 2014, Taylor Swift wore a crepe dress with a slit and transparent embroidery on the upper body.
Zuhair Murad commented: “It was something very new and everybody loved it.”
He believes it’s very important to complete the look. It isn’t just about the dress. The hair, the makeup, the shoes, the jewelry, the attitude and everything is important. It is a complete picture and every detail is thought of.
To be successful a fashion designer must also care to his/her client’s wants. That is exactly what Zuhair did for Sofia Vergara when he designed the comfortable and sexy wedding dress that she wished for. Zuhair Murad’s aim has always been to make a woman feel beautiful, feel sexy, feel elegant.
Finally, Zuhair Murad ended the interview with the following: “I will always keep working on myself to do always something new but at the same time to keep this feeling. For me, this is the most important.”
