Under the patronage of H.E Minister of Culture Ghattas Khoury and of H.E Minister of Tourism Avedis Guidanian, the 5th edition of BEIRUT ART WEEK, was inaugurated yesterday in front of Hotel Le Gray. The inauguration was held in the presence of the Minister of Culture, Laure d'Hauteville, founder & director of BEIRUT ART FAIR, Marine Bougaran, director of Exhibitors Relations and of the "Projects" space at the fair, Pascal Odille, artistic director of the fair; and representatives of sponsors, partner institutions, galleries and the media.
H.E Ghattas Khoury said: "BEIRUT ART WEEK is each year a highly anticipated event that allows an exchange between contemporary art and the city". He added that "this artistic itinerary creates dynamism and encourages art for all".
According to Laure d'Hauteville: "BEIRUT ART WEEK invites contemporary art to the heart of Beirut and every year it is a great joy to present a unique artistic itinerary to visitors."
This unique, offsite program will include 27 stops that highlight the cultural heritage of Beirut, deployed in public spaces and in some of the city's most prestigious shops.
This artistic circuit showcases important works including one by Romero Britto in partnership with the Beirut Marathon, in addition to the monumental sculptures of Mauro Corda, Helidon Xhixha, and Philippe Hiquily.
The inaugural itinerary started in front of the Hotel Le Gray, followed by 27 stops including Panerai, Hermes, Air France and Elie Saab where he presented his new Ready to Wear Fall / Winter 2017/2018 collection.
BEIRUT ART WEEK itinerary also includes artworks by: Randa Nehmé, Marc Sijan, Mojtaba "Moji" Ramzi, Louis Debré, Nayla Romanos Iliya, Pablo Reinoso, Arne Quinze, Mkrtich Mazmanian, Luis Lleo, Xavier Corbero, Pierre Marie, Lee Gil Rae, Anachar Basbous, Kameel Hawa, Saloua Raouda Choucair and Emile Mezher.
An open-air cinema have also unfolded on the terraces of the Opera Gallery in collaboration with the Festival of Lebanese Film. Dedicated to short films, this projection paid homage to internationally renowned and award-winning directors: "Submarine" by Mounia Akl, "Waves 98" by Ely Dagher and "After Shave" by Hany Tamba.
BEIRUT ART WEEK is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism, the Municipality of Beirut and Solidere.
