Celebrities have flooded social media with tributes to late singer Charles Aznavour.
The French crooner passed away at his home in Alpilles, France on Monday (01 Oct 18), a spokesperson has confirmed to Agence France-Presse (AFP). He was 94.
Following the news, a number of stars have taken to Instagram to honour Aznavour, with actor Jean Dujardin uploading a black and white image of the star and adding the caption, "Goodbye. I am listening to I Have Lived."
DJ Snake wrote, "Goodbye, Mr. Charles Aznavour," while singer Patrick Bruel commented, "I'm so sad to see you go... Thank you for everything, Charles."
David Hallyday, son of the late Johnny Hallyday, added, "A very sad day! A beautiful artist, but above all, a beautiful person."
French President Emmanuel Macron praised Aznavour's unique voice, and Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo wrote on Twitter: "It is of immense sadness to learn of the death of Charles Aznavour, a Parisian who has become a true icon of French song and a passionate ambassador of Armenia throughout the world. I send my condolences to his family and relatives."
Aznavour, who was born, Shahnour Vaghinag Aznavourian, to Armenian immigrants in Paris in 1924, sold more than 180 million records and featured in over 60 films.
He was best known for his 1974 hit She, which was later covered by Elvis Costello, and also won acclaim for 1973's The Old Fashioned Way.
Building up a reputation for his unique tenor voice, Aznavour was sometimes described as "France's Frank Sinatra" and over the course of his career he recorded 91 studio albums and wrote or co-wrote over 1,000 songs.
The legendary performer was married three times and had six children. He was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in August 2017 and was named entertainer of the century by CNN in 1998.
