The title of NOURI's lead single says it all. A New Zealand artist born in a Syrian refugee camp, it could read as a despairing flourish, a cry of 'where do we go from here?'. And she would have been fully entitled to that attitude, having been brought up in a refugee camp after her family home in Kurdistan was bombed before being granted refugee status in New Zealand when she was three.
Brought up in a musical family, and with Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera battling it out for supremacy on the home stereo, NOURI was winning talent competitions by 10 and singing for the former Prime Minister Sir John Key shortly after.
Success quickly found her, as she jetted half-way around the world to work with Grammy-award-winning producer Brian Kennedy - who also worked with Rihanna and Lady Gaga - and where she was offered a vocal part in big Hollywood film 'Daddy's Home'.
NOURI's debut single is a stripped back, uplifting yet melancholy slice of dreamy pop music that looks ahead, not back, that pushes forward.
Using guitars set to summer, a clever use of space, and her dovetailing vocals that rise and fall, 'Where Do We Go From Here' is an honest love song and one you'll quickly fall in love with.
With her debut single out on November 6 and an EP to follow early next year, 'Where Do We Go From Here' is a question with an obvious answer - onwards and upwards.
Talks about a Middle East and North Africa tour are in the pipeline for NOURI, with dates being finalized soon.
