Precision and respect:necessary skills for our country
The lebanon Water Festival opens the 8th edition in 2019 with a new discipline for Lebanon: Underwater Precision Target Shooting. Along the line of its on-going strategy, LEBWF is combining courses for professional instructors in free diving and scuba diving and a competition for participants on Sunday 23rd of June. Promoting two key skills very sought after for our country: precision in learning and implementing, and respect for rules and our surroundings.
The official judges course, taking place from the 20th to 22nd ofJune, is organized by the Lebanon Water Festival LIB/O00 national or Lebanese federation of CMAS ( International Federation) and conducted by Mr. Jean Gilles Yver delegated by CMAS and the French CMAS federation. He will be evaluating the instructors and assisting the graduated judges in the competition on Sunday 23rd.
Jean Gilles won in May 2019 1st place (Senior Category) in the French Target Shooting Competition - Super Biathlon discipline.
The Target Shooting Competition will be held in Tripoli, El- Minyeh, in a semi- Olympic pool located atAl-Arz Educational Compound. The event calls upon multiple technical and behavior skills such as: free diving, therefore holding one's breath underwater, swimming underwater with a speargun, while consuming as little oxygen as possible, but most of all a calm and controlled behavior enabling them to target shoot with accuracy.
The competition is based on the highest reached points and the closest range to the center of the target therefore requiring great accuracy. One should note that water impacts greatly the angle and speed of the arrow.
The competition needs a mix of skills: being a free diver with a spear gun and swimming under water without consuming too much oxygen, while managing gravity to enable accuracy when aiming at the target.
Practically the competition is as follows: participants load their spear guns, dive to 10 meters with a single breath, latch on to the bottom with one hand and aim at the target with the other. Each competitor gets two rounds of 5 minutes each and shooting a maximum of 10 shots in total. The wines are the ones who reach the accumulate the highest points: determined by accuracy (closest to he target center) and judges' criteria's.
A second competition will take place on the 24th of August 2019.
