Radio One, one of Lebanon’s oldest and most popular FM radio stations was reported to have closed down due to the country’s unfortunate economic situation. Having entertained Lebanese, from the youth to adults for over three decades, we are sad to have to say goodbye.
The radio station ceased all shows on February 1st, adding to the list of businesses that closed its doors in the past few months as a result of the financial crisis in Lebanon. But was the financial crisis the cause?
While the unexpected shutdown may have been said to be from the economic downturn, other explanations are plausible. According to a media source, the radio station was acquired in June 2018 by a group of investors, some others say that the current owner disappeared and let the station fade away.
Tears were shed in 2018 when radio host Gavin Ford was murdered in his home, leaving listeners and cohosts heartbroken all over the country. Our condolences go out to the entire radio station. Your great music, heartwarming company on our morning commutes, and amazing radio personalities will forever remain in our hearts.
