Rebirth Beirut Continues its Mission with New Lighting Achievements in Mathaf and Sami El Solh

    10 july 2025

Rebirth Beirut reaffirmed its dedication to restoring life and light to the capital through the “Light up our community” initiative, in partnership with MEDCO, during a special event held on Wednesday, July 9 at 7:30 PM, across from the Smallville Hotel. The occasion marked the official lighting of Sami El Solh Avenue, Mathaf Street, and the Mathaf traffic light intersection — a new milestone in the NGO’s ongoing efforts to enhance public spaces and promote safety and vibrancy across Beirut.

The event brought together the Governor of Beirut, members of the Municipal Council, along with citizens, supporters, and representatives from the public and private sectors — all united by a shared vision of a brighter, safer capital.

Thanks to collaborative community action and generous partner support, areas long plagued by darkness and neglect are now illuminated, welcoming, and secure for both residents and passersby.

The lighting of Sami El Solh Avenue was made possible through the support of Abou Jaoude & Associates Law Firm, Online Money Transfer (OMT), Mersaco, Nakhal & Cie, Mr. Ramzi Salman, and iShack. Special thanks go to Mr. Bashir Ghattas for his contribution in securing the power supply. The project was crowned by an in-kind donation of Philips LED streetlights from Light Inc., which played a pivotal role in the project’s implementation.

The Smallville Hotel sponsored the lighting of Mathaf Street, while the Beirut Eye & ENT Specialist Hospital (BESH) generously supported the activation of the Mathaf traffic light intersection.

In his speech, Mr. Gaby Fernaine, Founder and President of Rebirth Beirut, expressed deep gratitude to all who contributed to this achievement:

“Every street we light is a message of hope — that Beirut can shine again through unity, determination, and mutual support. This project would not have seen the light of day without the trust and belief of our partners.”

Fernaine extended special thanks to MEDCO, calling it a strategic partner in the campaign, and also thanked the Governor of Beirut, Judge Marwan Abboud, and the Municipality of Beirut for their support.

In conclusion, Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud, praised the role of the private sector and civil society, especially Rebirth Beirut. He stated: “Such initiatives genuinely contribute to helping Beirut recover, and with determination and belief in the city, real change can be achieved.”

This event is part of a series of initiatives launched by Rebirth Beirut, which has so far successfully lit over 155 streets across Beirut’s neighborhoods. The organization remains steadfast in its mission to bring sustainable change — driven by collaboration, effective action, and the belief in the community’s power to lead the capital’s revival.
