Under the patronage of His Excellency General Joseph Aoun, President of the Lebanese Republic, Darb Mar Charbel (Saint Charbel Trail- Camino de San Charbel) was officially launched with the inauguration of its first section (A1) linking Annaya to Mayfouq.
The launching ceremony took place at the Saint Maron Monastery in Annaya, on the Feast Day of Saint Charbel, in the heart of the Jubilee Year 2025 “Pilgrims of Hope”. The event was marked by the blessing of the “Kilometer Zero” monument by His Beatitude Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Rai, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East.
The celebration was held in the presence of esteemed spiritual and diplomatic figures, including His Excellency Bishop Paolo Borgia, Apostolic Nuncio to Lebanon, Most Reverend Abbot Hady Mahfouz, Superior General of the Lebanese Maronite Order, and Most Reverend Abbot Tannous Nehme, Superior of the Saint Maron Monastery.
Darb Mar Charbel is Lebanon’s first long-distance pilgrimage trail, connecting sacred sites on the footsteps of Lebanon’s beloved Saint, across three major phases in the northern part:
The finalization of the southern part, extending towards Harissa, is scheduled for 2026.
The trail honors the spiritual legacy of Saint Charbel, inviting pilgrims and hikers to reconnect with faith, nature, and the deep cultural roots of Lebanon.
This pioneering initiative, launched by Darbessama and implemented in partnership with the Lebanon Mountain Trail Association (LMTA), is built on the strength of community engagement and fundraising. By contributing to the development of Saint Charbel Trail, benefactors are helping to foster spiritual unity, preserve Lebanon’s heritage, and empower rural communities.
More than a path, the Camino de San Charbel is a journey of soul and land, uniting people in hope, reflection, and renewal.
