In the presence of the French Ambassador, Hervé Magro, and Beirut officials, FAIR MARKET opened at BEMO Space in Achrafieh, bringing together rural producers and urban visitors in a lively and immersive celebration of Lebanese craftsmanship and culinary heritage. Open from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the market welcomed families, friends, and food enthusiasts of all ages.
Organized under the Aradina project and funded by L’Agence Française de Développement (AFD), FAIR MARKET offered visitors the chance to taste, explore, and purchase authentic Lebanese products, from regional foods to handmade crafts, while highlighting sustainable production and fair trade practices.
“By improving market access and promoting local know-how, this market directly contributes to the agricultural and rural development of Lebanon, a priority shared by France and its partners” said HE, Mr Hervé Margo.
In his welcome note, Dr. Riad Obegi, Chairman of Banque BEMO, which hosted the event at the parking, emphasized that “Fair Trade is a just cause” and invited all those who might haveunused assets to put it at the service of others in support of just causes. He added that “this makes even greater sense as FairTrade Lebanon’s work is deeply rooted in an ethical approach. Ethics is the only thing that can save Lebanon.”
According to Mr. Samir Abdel Malak, president of Fair Trade Lebanon, The Fair Market lies at the very heart of our mission: empowering rural communities and giving them the visibility they deserve. It is proof that when we bridge the gap between producers and consumers, we create not just economic growth, but dignity and resilience.”
The opening day featured a vibrant program, including an official ceremony with key speeches, recognition of award-winning producers, and a guided tour where visitors sampled local products and heard the stories behind them. Families enjoyed interactive workshops, making the market a truly engaging and family-friendly experience.
FAIR MARKET will continue every Saturday until October 25, offering ongoing opportunities to connect with Lebanon’s talented producers, artisanal traditions, and vibrant community spirit.
