After setting anchor at its dock facing the Jiyeh Power Plant on August 12th, Orhan Bey is now successfully connected to the Lebanese grid and already supplying energy. It will be providing more than 82 MW to the EDL plant in the framework of the "Power of Friendship" project; with this initiative now completed, more electricity will be circulating through the whole Lebanese grid.
In line with this, Karadeniz Powership confirms that, with the presence of EDL and third party international experts, successful operational tests have been conducted on the 3rd of September for the generators and connection systems aboard the Powership anchored facing Jiyeh, making them fully ready for electricity generation.
Karadeniz Powership has developed a unique and innovative response to support Lebanon and come to the specific power needs of the Lebanese people. Currently, the company operates two ships in Lebanon; following its sister Fatmagül Sultan of 180MW, which arrived in March, Orhan Bey has arrived to Beirut to complete the 270MW agreement.
The Powership project comes to support the Lebanese government long term plan to bring about reforms to the electricity sector in Lebanon. Following a brief interruption due to inadequate fuel, Fatmagül Sultan continuously generated power and has been providing more than 180 MW uninterrupted electricity to the Lebanese Grid since 4th of June. Now the completed 270 MW will be nurturing the grid while the Lebanese State works on rehabilitating production units on land based plants within the coming 3 years.
Taking into account the current global fuel prices and the efficiency guaranteed by the company, the electricity provided by the Powerships is the cheapest power source to date in Lebanon, saving over 100 Million dollars annually.
