The Barcelona midfielder edged Leo and Cristiano to Uefa's prestigious prize on Thursday. It will be a big surprise, however, if he is honoured by Fifa too later on this year.
The midfielder was also named as the Player of the Tournament following Spain's victory in Euro 2012.
"Without my team-mates at the Spanish national team and Barcelona I wouldn't have won this individual trophy," Iniesta said.
