    22 april 2014

Under the auspices and presence of Mrs.Lama Tammam Salam, the Grand Serail opened its doors for the public through its weekly program 'Date at the Serail', a platform focusing on social, educational, health, environment and cultural topics.

The first session was dedicated to children as Mrs. Salam showed her commitment to orphans by hosting a fair at the Serail's courtyard. More than 200 children from different orphanages and associations from all the Lebanese regions enjoyed the celebration along with a number of NGOs and minister's wives: Joyce Samir Mokbel, Marlene Boutros Harb, Mona Ramzy Jreige, Dania Sejaan Azzi, Grace Alain Hakim, Chantal Jebran Bassil, Wadad Raymond Areiji, and Minou Mohammed Al Machnouk.

"We wanted, my husband and I, the Grand Serail to become a platform for the Lebanese to express their issues and problems," said Mrs. Salam. "Every Wednesday we will address a different topic and we wanted to launch the program with children to be a joyful start", she added.

Mrs. Salam revealed the agenda of every Wednesday starting with a round table on the 16th of April on "the integration of children with special needs into the Lebanese society", followed by a conference on the 23rd discussing approaches to "economically empower women".  To celebrate Nurses International Day, the Serail will be honoring senior nurses on the 30th of April while tackling elder's rights on May 7 through a round table entitled "Don't turn the elder into a helpless person". The Serail will host on the 14th of May an environmental discussion "My Environment, My country" and close its program with an exhibition of young Lebanese artists.

At the end of the ceremony, Mrs. Salam thanked the attendees, Memac Ogilvy (communication agency) , Matiss (organizer of the fair) and Urban Arts (organizers of all the events) for their support and contribution.
