As part of "Alfa 4-Life" CSR Program:
"Cleanliness is our citizenship" initiative: a seashore clean-up initiative led by the children of Acsauvel:
Beirut, 2012: Under the high patronage and in presence of H.E. Minister of Environment Mr.Nazem El Khoury and as part of the "Alfa 4-Life" CSR Program, Alfa, managed by OrascomTelecom, organized in coordination with the Municipality of Byblos- Jbeil, and Acsauvel aseashore clean-up initiative titled "Cleanliness is Our Citizenship." The event took place in Jbeil,Al Bahsa Fartoush Seashore, on Saturday September 1st, 2012. The event was attended by Eng.Marwan Hayek, CEO and Chairman of Alfa, Jbeil municipality Head, Ziad Hawat, Ambassador ofCanada, Ms. Hilary Childs-Adams, Ambassador of Belgium in Lebanon Mrs. Colette Taquet, Mrs.Nabila Fares, Director of Acsauvel, in addition to media personalities, civil society activists, andother interested stakeholders.
The children of Acsauvel worked alongside the other participants to clean the Byblos seashorecontributing to transforming the Bahsa seashore to a clean space for all citizens to enjoy.Acsuavel children with special needs have participated in this initiative as active citizens andadvocates of environmental issues and contributors to raising awareness on the dangers ofmarine pollution, which is a key step for the integration of the children in the society and inliving their full citizenship.
During the event, special brochures were distributed including text contents explaining theimportance of preserving our sea. The brochures explained the causes of maritime pollutionand its consequences as well as gave tips for everyone to do every day, alongside paintingsof the environment that were painted by the children themselves. The Acsauvel children alsopresented a special song for the occasion.
The event included speeches by the Minister Nazem El Khoury, Mr. Marwan Hayek, Mr. ZiadHawat, and Mrs. Marie Fahd, the director of educational affairs at Acsauvel. In his word,Hayek stressed that Alfa continues to support associations taking care of children with specialcommunication needs. Hayek stated that "the participation of Acsauvel children in drivingthe awareness initiative shows that the children are active citizens that defend social andenvironmental causes, which is what we aim to achieve through our CSR Program since 2006."Hayek also spoke about the objective of this initiative which is "namely raising awareness in thecommunity about the damage that is caused to the marine ecosystem especially as a result ofthrowing waste."
