    Woman beaten by police officer

    03 october 2014
This homeless woman was assaulted by police, and she didn't rest until she got justice and a little security for her future.

The victim of a brutal roadside police beating has been awarded a settlement of $1.5 million and the officer who attacked her will resign from the force.

Marlene Pinnock suffers from bipolar disorder and has been homeless for five years, according to CBS News. She hadn't taken her medicine for some time on the first of July 2014, which was why she was walking with no shoes along the freeway and disoriented that day. A California Highway Patrol officer responded to calls from motorists concerned about the woman's safety, the same woman he was filmed pummeling moments later.

The video shot by a passing motorist sparked a firestorm of outrage at the brutality it shows across the country. "I felt like he was trying to kill me, beat me to death," she told the Associated Press last month.

After that terrible assault, all Pinnock wanted, according to her attorney, "was that she was provided for in a manner that accommodated her unique situation in life and that the officer was not going to be an officer anymore...."

Pinnock will reportedly receive $1.5 million and the officer involved will resign his position.
