Environmental Christmas Trees Installed at Spinneys

    13 january 2015

Spinneys the premium retailer in the Middle East and Africa decorated its stores with environmentally friendly Christmas trees made out of reused plastic bottles. The activity was the result of cooperation with Atria, Red & Blue and the GMI project. The 5 meter high trees were installed in the Jnah, Hazmieh, Dbayeh and Jbeil branches. The plastic bottles were assembled in the form of snow flakes and then built into a network to cover the Christmas trees. Many customers were seen taking pictures and sharing them to spread the Christmas joy and the creative environmental installations.

The initiative was conceived as part of the Spinneys responsible corporate citizenship role. The trees are an attempt to combine environmental care with the Christmas spirit. Spinneys wanted to present the Lebanese with an example of creative Christmas decoration promoting environmental proactivity. The message of the project is to say that the festive season can be a celebration of responsibility and protection of the Lebanese environment.

In the same spirit of recycling plastic bottles, Spinneys' with Atria and Neslte, placed especial machines in all Spinneys stores to collect plastic bottle and reward the customers who recycle their bottles. The project succeeded in collecting 1.7 million plastic bottles in 2014, which pushed the total collected by the project over three years to 4million bottles.

Spinneys continuously engages in environmental projects across all its 9 branches in Lebanon. It has partnered with many organizations and NGOs to support various social issues.
