Holding a plank for more than a minute is one of the most dreaded exercises, well imagine holding it for 5 hours, 15 minutes, and 15 seconds.
On Saturday, George Hood, a 57 year old former marine officer, just shattered the world score for the longest plank. He managed to break the previous Guinness World Record of 4 hours and 23 minutes that was set by a Chinese police officer by holding the position for over 5 hours.
It took Hood nearly 2 hours for him to finally feel the burn. Just watching him for 30 seconds will make your abs burn.
He had a whole team with him supplying him with water and making sure his elbows were comfortable. Hood's family and friends were there to keep him company and provide him with a variety of distractions during the plank so he could overlook the pain.
"They bring little gifts up here to the table that I can stare at and draw conclusions, and just study them. All that helps pass time," Hood told KNSD-TV.
This was more than just a record that Hood had to break. He was also fighting his strength to raise money for injured Marines. He told CBS 8, "This is the least I could do, and the discomfort I feel right now pales in comparison to that which they've experienced on the battlefield. Trust me when I tell you that."
"They are my heroes. They really are. Every one of them", says Hood.
