Alfa warns its subscribers of a new vulnerability on Android devices

    06 august 2015

As part of its constant efforts to protect the privacy to its subscribers and keep up with e-piracy developments worldwide to avoid falling victim to them, Alfa, managed by Orascom Telecom, informs its subscribers that a security vulnerability was detected in Android smartphones.

This vulnerability gives hackers full control of a phone by sending users an MMS such as images or video, thus enabling data theft and piracy of personal information, in addition to spying, data deletion or copying, app hacking, and other piracy acts.

Alfa urges its customers to be careful when receiving multimedia messages from unknown sources and asks them to follow the below guidelines for protecting their smartphones:

    - Do not open or download any multimedia content received on the phone, even if it is from a reliable source.
    - Some of these multimedia messages can hack the phone directly, even if the user does not download the files. In this case, the "auto retrieve multimedia messages" feature must be unchecked through the following steps: Messages-> Settings-> Multimedia messages -> uncheck auto retrieve
