The Metropolis Association is pleased to announce the first edition of its Youth Film Festival - MY Film Fest - that will be held between 10 and 14 March 2016 at the Metropolis Empire Sofil Cinema, in Ashrafieh.
Since its establishment, Metropolis Cinema has focused on its young audience, allowing them to discover world cinema through a large scale of activities dedicated for them, such as the cine-clubs "The Magic Lantern" and "Tous au Cinéma". The latter gathered in its 2014/215 season over 18,000 spectators, aged between 5 and 18 years old.
The Metropolis Association has found that the time has come to present a comprehensive film program for youth in Lebanon within the framework of a dedicated film festival, presenting regional and international productions that suit all age categories starting 5 years old, until 18 years old and above.
Running in parallel to the film screenings, three workshops will be organized:
1) MY Animation Workshop: An introduction to animation film, particularly stop-motion and cut-out film making (Open for ages 8-12)
2) MY Sound Workshop: An introductory workshop on sound and foley art (Open for ages 15-18)
3) MY Film Directing Workshop: An introductory workshop on film directing (Open for ages 12-15)
In addition to the workshops, and within the framework of the partnership between the Metropolis Association and the Giffoni Film Festival, two invitations will be offered to youngsters aged between 18 and 21 to participate in the Giffoni Experience, held in Italy in July 2016. The calls to register to the workshops and/or to apply to Giffoni Experience are open until 1 March 2016.
Participation in the workshops and Giffoni Experience is free of charge.
Full programme will be revealed on 24 February 2016.
This festival is organized in partnership with the Embassy of Denmark in Lebanon, within the framework of the cinema project "Mahattat - Cinema on the road", and in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Beirut.
