After she had sent a request to the Academy in order to cover the academy Awards in Los Angeles, young Shaima Abdel Moniem, who is an Egyptian journalist, was accepted as the first from her country to be among the countless number of reporters asking questions to Oscar winners regardless her stretch request.
A one-minute controversial video went viral on social media showing footage of DiCaprio and director Alejandro Inarritu backstage receiving questions from journalists after Leonardo’s win for “Best Actor” in "The Revenant". "I'm a first Egyptian journalist covering Oscars from here, and what about the first Oscars for you?" she asked DiCaprio, looked confused and asked the journalist to repeat the question.
"For your Oscar," the journalist said. "Yeah, it feels amazing" DiCaprio replied, with laughs resounding in the room, mocking the obvious question. "It's a first, what about that?" she said again. "Yeah, it is the first. Look, like I said, I'm just incredibly grateful. Thank you," DiCaprio answered.
Social Media users started criticizing the young journalist who was obviously not prepared to conduct the interview. She might have sent a negative image about Egyptian journalism given that she is the first from her country to cover such a tremendous event. They are wondering if the academy will ever allow Egyptian journalists to cover the ceremony again!
