Lebanon’s Tourism Minister launches first Family Fun Festival with the UN

    29 august 2016

The UN Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC Beirut) and Design Pillars, a company for public, corporate and private events, are launching the first Family Fun Festival in Lebanon under the auspices of Tourism Minister Michel Pharaon, in a press conference on Friday at 10h30 AM at the Ministry of Tourism in Hamra,Beirut.

Speaking at the conference are Minister Pharaon, Beirut Mayor, Jamal Itani, President of the Union of Chambers in Lebanon and Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, Mohamed Choucair, and representatives of Design Pillars, who will introduce the festival and provide details on the event.

Family Fun Festival is scheduled on Thursday, Friday and Saturday 8, 9 and 10 September at the Beirut Hippodrome in Beirut's Horsh district adjacent to Badaro. It includes numerous attractions, activities, games, educational and awareness workshops, as well as an exquisite food area.

It aims at promoting awareness on the importance of strong family bonds and a healthy and sustainable environment, and increasing knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting families. It is expected to attract more than 10,000 families and people of all ages across Lebanon who will experience quality time together.

The concept of this event came up on the occasion of the International Day of Families, observed every year on 15 May as proclaimed by the UN General Assembly. The festival will highlight the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal number 17, "Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development." Last year, the UN adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that constitute a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. A successful sustainable development agenda requires partnerships among governments, the private sector and civil society. These inclusive partnerships, built upon principles and values, a shared vision, and shared goals that place people and the planet at the center, are needed at all levels in Lebanon.
