5 ways Lebanon will improve with the coming of a new President

    31 october 2016

The Lebanese may have lost homes, loved ones and employments, but one thing they haven't lost in the aftermath of all wars is their legendary sense of humor. As we all know, the situation in Lebanon has not been great is putting it lightly. The position of the president in Lebanon has been vacant for over two years. Naturally, the humorous Lebanese people that we are, we have put ourselves as the butt of every joke out there.

The most recent one making fun of the Clinton-Trump candidacy in the United States by convincing the world that it's better to go without a president since we have been "successfully" surviving without one for over two years.

However, we are not here to make jokes like who is the only person who loves Mondays. We are here to list 5 ways in which Lebanon can improve with the coming of a new president.

    1.Significant change in political climate
With a sense of stability, the political climate will change. The unrest and agitated political situation that Lebanon has been facing will calm. Hence, this brings us to our following point.

    2.New parliamentary elections
The last parliamentary elections took place in 2009.These elections are allotted to occur every four years and have failed to do so. Therefore, there is a whole generation of Lebanese people born between 1989 - 1995 who can finally be allowed to vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

    3.Economy improvement
With a president in place, the government will properly be able to tackle the major economic issues that Lebanon has been facing. Therefore, stability within the government must bring (slow) economic growth.

    4.People can finally be naturalized
Before the end of his presidential term, former Lebanese President Michel Suleiman's team prepared a decree granting Lebanese citizenship to 300 individuals and families (about 644 people in total). Therefore, with a new Lebanese president, those struggling with legal residence issues normally seen with the cases of having a Lebanese mother and foreign father can finally apply to receive the Lebanese citizenship.

5.Baabda Palace will be used again
For those who don't know, Baabda Palace was built in 1956 on a hill in the mountain town of Baabda overlooking Beirut. It has since been known as the official residence of the President of Lebanon. We like efficiency and a building must fulfill its original purpose so we had to include this on the list.
