Under the slogan, "A Salute to our Past... A Pledge to Our Future", alumni of the American University of Beirut gathered in Boston for the 35th Anniversary Gala celebration at the prestigious Trustees Ballroom of the Boston University on Saturday April 29th.
The evening opened with a live performance of the alma matter followed by a video highlighting the history of the alumni chapter, with personal reflections of the former presidents and their families since the chapter foundation in 1982.
In his opening remarks, chapter president Dr. Akl Fahed announced a pledge of 100,000$ endowment scholarship fund to commemorate the "New England Chapter" name and support the tuition of needy students at AUB. His speech focused on the importance of philanthropy to support education in the Middle East. This was followed by an honoring ceremony of all former chapter presidents.
Trustee Emeriti of AUB Dr. Ghaleb Daouk was the master of ceremonies. In his remarks, he inspired on the audience by showing the stories of students from AUB whose lives were transformed by donations that allowed them to afford tuition at the university.
He then introduced keynote speaker Dr. Mohamad Sayegh, Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at AUB. Sayegh updated the alumni on AUB's Health 2025, a transformative vision of health that AUB is undertaking in the region.
This was followed by an evening of oriental music and dancing.
