    11 july 2018
The Faculty of Architecture at the Beirut Arab University (BAU) and the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) are collaborating with Solidere, to showcase their highly anticipated interactive installation at Beirut Souks’ Khan Antoun Bey Square between July 14-24. The beautiful structure was designed throughout the IAAC 2018 Global Summer School (GSS) which is currently underway.
Advanced digital tools and fabrication techniques, such as computational design modeling softwares, coding platforms and a 6-axis robotic arm, 3D printers and CNC milling machines, were used by the participants to design, develop, prototype and fabricate the structure. The intention behind displaying this innovative intervention is to create a playful and interactive space in the heart of Beirut City Centre.
“We invite everyone to come and enjoy this iconic piece that was meticulously crafted by students at the Beirut Arab University. Solidere has been at the forefront of encouraging university students from across the country to showcase their capacity, to create and innovate. I would like to thank Prof. Ibtihal El Bastawissi, the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture in Beirut Arab University for choosing Beirut Souks as this year’s venue to host their fantastic work of art,” said Adib Al Nakib, Marketing Division Manager at Solidere.
This year’s interactive installation was built at the fabrication lab of the Faculty of Architecture at Beirut Arab University, Debbieh, Lebanon. The Digital Fabrication Lab is the first of its kind in Lebanon currently equipped with the latest technology devices and fabrication tools.
IAAC Global Summer School is a yearly full-time two-week course that provides practical and theoretical knowledge to its participants. The program is led by expert tutors, combined with lectures by renowned professionals and academics in the field. The program runs simultaneously in 12 cities around the world such as Paris, New York and Barcelona.
