    Europe’s tallest skyscraper is almost complete

    The Lakhta Centre in St Petersburg in Russia stands at 1,516 feet (462 metres) tall, making it the 13th tallest building in the world. The 87-floor tower moves 90 degrees from its foundation with a 'twisted' design.

    The Laktha Centre takes the title of Europe’s tallest building from Moscow’s Federation Tower, which was completed in 2017 at 1,226ft (373.7 metres) Residential and commercial spaces will fill the building up to 1,181 feet (360 metres) with a view point and restaurant at the top looking over the Gulf of Finland. The building’s facade is made from 16,500 individual panes of glass that have been fitted with automatic shutters and valves to reduce heat loss. Construction began in October 2012 – and in January this year they used the highest crane in Europe to with its spire, without any helicopter support.
