Egyptian TV presenter Wafaa El Kilany hosted the first episode of her new show Takharif on MBC with her guest Lebanese singer/songwriter and the King of Romance, Wael Kfoury. Wafaa served a mixture of questions, ranging from the simple to the complex including discussions about his health, happiness, troubles, awkward situations, and lack of support, all which allowed Wael to open up and answer with wit and spontaneity. His new song Akhadet El Arar was a topic of discussion where he shared that this is his reality now, an answer when combined with some parts of the interview reflects bitterness in his personal life.
He particularly replied to one of the questions by saying he has always sacrificed and he is still sacrificing, as well as stating that he is involved in his children's day to day school lives and that he has always given his all. When asked whether he is divorced from his wife he answered by saying that the information is private, however invited speculation when he stated that if his wife ever chose to remarry then he would take his two daughters (age 2 and 7) to live with him. Wael doesn't mind if his wife does remarry and believes it is every person's right and decision, but he himself has closed the door on marriage which he views as a failed institution. He followed by stating that while in the future his firm opinion might change, his preference is for cohabitation but is aware that this setup or any other does not reveal a person's true colors.
He added that when two people are dating they see each other at certain moments, happy, ready, perfect, but only marriage lets one know the other as they are. Wael is also adamant on keeping his family matters private, and when asked about a photo of his daughter that was released a while back, he stated that sometimes mothers like to share moments with the public, automatically shirking off the responsibility of this action. He had recently started taking his eldest daughter with him to attend his concerts to get to know her father well but he asked of her not to take any pictures, as he believes children these days are tech savvy and always connected, thus reflecting his protective paternal instinct.
The hour long interview was wrapped up and Wael's appearance reflected a relatable side, something we don't always get to see with public figures, and he shared his fears and hopes, mistakes and disappointments.
