Following the start of 2021, the COVID-19 situation in Lebanon has become stressful and
emotionally exhausting. Due to the new restrictions forced by the government, people found
themselves stuck at home. Hence, the international fitness model and owner of SLR Gym, Maya Nassar
decided to help the quarantined stay sane and keep fit during the lockdown by hosting an exclusive
virtual workshop under the title of “How to reach your Fitness Goal in 2021” on January 11th at 9pm.
Cooks, fitness gurus, lifestyle influencers and media figures attended the e-workshop where
Maya shared the 4 integral parts of any successful body transformation: Motivation, Nutrition,
Weightlifting and Cardio.
Maya believes that we are responsible for our own lifestyle. Through her workshop, she encouraged
people to stay motivated by investing their time and money into becoming healthy, thinking about
their family and health on the long run, finding alternatives to emotional eating and sticking to a
positive state of mind.
Also, the question “What should you eat every day?” was answered during the workshop. Maya
clarified and raised awareness on the calories intake and the different types of nutrients to be daily
consumed: healthy fats, lean protein, whole-grain carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables. Moreover, she
shared many tips and tricks about daily healthy nutrition. “Low calorie diets do not work (diets below
1,200 calories/day). They will make you fatter in the long run” she confirms.
In hopes of spreading motivation and productivity, Maya shed lights on the various forms of exercises
needed to be practiced in parallel to a good diet plan. She spoke about the types of Cardio workout
(moderate intensity and high intensity) and the different benefits of Weightlifting exercises such as
naturally transforming the body’s shape, boosting the metabolism, enhancing the endurance,
preventing diseases and many more!
The international fitness model confirms that the combination of Weightlifting and Cardio forms a
fruitful exercise journey. In addition to that, Maya clarified numerous myths that people encounter
which might refrain the progress towards their fitness goals. For instance, weightlifting does not
promote fat loss, it makes women bulky and masculine and should not be done by the elderly.
Summing up her instructive and informative workshop, Maya insisted on “Time and
Consistency” being the final two elements that people need to respect in order to achieve their goal. It
usually takes two to three months to witness progress in one’s fitness journey, believes Maya who
emphasizes on trying harder if something does not work; “there is no such thing as failure” she says as
a wrap up for the workshop.
