George Nehme Joins the Jury of the Byblos International Film Festival

    20 august 2026
Lebanese artist George Nehme has been selected to serve on the jury of the second edition of the Byblos International Film Festival, taking place August 21–23 at the Artisans’ Garden in Byblos’ Old Souk.

Held under the patronage of Lebanon’s Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Culture – Directorate General of Antiquities, in collaboration with the Municipality of Byblos, the festival brings together a diverse lineup of Lebanese and international short and feature films, spotlighting emerging filmmakers, bold creative voices, and a wide range of cinematic perspectives.

Nehme will serve on the jury alongside acclaimed Lebanese figures Carine Rizkallah, Bruno Tabbal, Mahmoud Hojeij, Yolla Khalife, and Joseph Chemaly.

The Byblos International Film Festival’s administration said Nehme was selected for his multifaceted artistic background, experience and professionalism across music, sound, and cinema, as well as his academic and critical perspective—qualities that bring a thoughtful, multidisciplinary lens to the jury. Best known for his work in music, Nehme’s appointment also carries special significance given his deep ties to Byblos, the city where he was raised and has called home throughout much of his life. His appointment marks his first time serving on the jury of a film festival.

“I’m very happy to be joining the jury of the Byblos International Film Festival for the first time,” says Nehme. “I believe festivals like this are essential because art, particularly cinema and the powerful combination of sound and image, plays an important role in conveying artists’, individuals’, and society’s ideas. Cinema has the power to influence audiences’ perspectives, shape their ideas and even impact their behavior. By creating a space where these ideas can be shared and experienced, festivals also give cinema and the arts the meaningful place they deserve in our cultural lives.”

He adds, “I’m looking forward to discovering the films in competition, encountering new cinematic voices, and supporting work that deserves to be seen. I’m wishing this International festival a successful edition filled with creativity.”

The festival will culminate in an awards ceremony on August 23, bringing the second edition of the Byblos International Film Festival to a close.
