PLUR, an event management company that specializes in creating, planning, and managing high standard events, brings forth an imaginative idea in attempt to promote music in Lebanon. Not only will they focus on eventing, but they will go beyond to later handle labeling as well. On Sunday October 5th, 2014, PLUR proudly presents Back 2 Basics at Uruguay Street. This will be their first event, with plenty of promising ones to come.
Beiruting had the chance to exclusively interview the owner; Mrs. Amer and and the managing partner of PLUR; Mrs. Amal Ajram to get to know more about them and their future plans:
Q: Let's talk a bit about PLUR:
A: It's an event company / recording studio; we are putting now all our efforts on eventing because we have a nice idea and a nice line up of bands. Our sole interest is music. We are targeting local bands that have been picking up lately in the market, doing their own covers and recordings. We have decided, after intensive research, to gather the best bands; Sandmoon, Shady Nashef, Poly, Meen as this has proven to have a successful track record.
Q: What's the style that PLUR will focus on?
A: English, most of all, rock and blues. The bands that we picked mostly perform in English, but some also include Arabic as they are trendy, perform comedy music and discuss the social issues of Lebanon.
Q: When do you expect to start labeling?
A: It is a set target, but for us to label songs is hard. We need someone who looks like PLUR. It's hard because of how people look at music nowadays and they got used to it, but we look at it differently, we look at the artists and we are seeking identity. It's a fine line between selling and finding the right songs and artists. We will work on labeling people when we find the artist, when we feel like we found someone who can deliver.
Q: What will be your focus in the upcoming event?
A: We will play very modern rock. For example, Poly she is out of the box, and has the required audacity. You can read her through her music. She focuses on visuals, that's the most important thing in an event, People should prioritize the artist and the show for without those two, you have no event.
Moreover, if you look at music worldwide, though we love partying and getting wild, everyone is going back to the roots. They no longer want the DJ and house music, they want Adele's style. Pop is going back to rock and so on...
Q: What problems do you expect to face?
A: Our main concern is security just like any other industry in this country that is related to leisure. But despite everything people would still party.
Q: Why did you choose Uruguay Street?
A: It is in downtown, exposed and out there, it's fun and European; we placed the stage in the middle for a better interaction between the band and the people. Bands and pubs are very pleased to have the stage centered as such. There will be many surprises, we will also have a wall of fame. Every band will play like half an hour and then take pictures on the wall of fame, sell their CDs, and interact with fans while Dj Johnny Rizk plays for 15 minutes in between.
Q: Any Final words?
Jessy said: "I do it with passion; I do it with love, I am very lucky to have Mrs. Amal with us. She is the backbone of the company, I come up with the idea and she puts it into action, she makes it happen. It's going to be very exciting, we will bring forward a show and a party at once, don't miss it..."By : Stephany B.
