Nestlé Waters and Project WET (Water Education for Teachers), a US-based NGO that develops educational tools to increase awareness of water amongst educators and children, have announced a four-year renewal of their partnership, which began in 1992 to help raise awareness about the importance of water conservation and hydration.
Global initiatives include several in Lebanon that have so far reached nearly 8,000 students and teachers in schools across the country over seven years, and are aiming to reach 1,700 more in 2015 through activities ranging from hosting public school students at Nestlé's Sohat factory in Falougha, to educational sessions in Tyr conducted in association with the city's municipality and the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon, as well as factory events in Ain Zhalta in association with the Shouf Cedar Reserve.
"Two decades of support from Nestlé Waters have enabled Project WET to bring hands-on, action-oriented water education to people in places that we could not have reached on our own," said Dennis Nelson, Project WET President and CEO.
"Six specific Project Wet activities are conducted in Lebanon," explained Rania Choueifati, Lebanon Senior Brand Manager, Nestlé Waters. "Those are Blue Planet, The Life Box, Aqua Bodies, a Drop in the Bucket, One for All, and Sum of the Part, all of which aim to lead children through a process that allows them to understand the importance of water in our lives, teach them that all our actions affect water, and educate them on how to protect and preserve it."
