The Fragility Fracture Networks Grants Lebanon its Pioneering President's Award

    15 september 2016

The Lebanese Ministry of Health started to implement its decision of offering universal health coverage to Lebanese citizens after the age of 64, including fractures treatment expenses, which triggered positive echoes in the global medical community, and strengthened Lebanon's positioning among international industry players. On the same note, the Fragility Fracture Network granted the Medical Director and Vice-President of Medical Affairs at Bellevue Medical Center, Prof. Ghassan Maalouf, during its annual gathering held in Rome, its President's Award, as a recognition for his great achievements in this field, and his pioneering role in the fragility fracture prevention.

It is worth mentioning that the President's Award is the first of its kind granted by the organization to a doctor, and the fact that such recognition was granted to Lebanon - this small country among many other large developed ones - is a result of collective efforts made by a group of Lebanese physicians, and supported by the Ministry of Health, led by Minister Abou Faour, who launched the universal health coverage decision.

It is noteworthy that the Fragility Fracture Network is the first organization in the world that gathers nurses, physicists, geriatricians, orthopedic surgeons and internal diseases' doctors, in order to tackle the increasing rate of bone fractures in elderly people, with a higher average life expectancy reaching 86 soon in the world.
