Beirut Ranks As Most Expensive City For Expats

    24 october 2018

EuroCost International aims at acquiring data relating to fair wages and decent living conditions for expatriates in 200 countries as a service to organizations. They divulge annually the list of most expensive cities in the world for expats (a person who resides outside their native country) and the 2018 ranking for which data was gathered between the months of June and September, reveals that Beirut is the 7th most expensive city out of the 272 locations considered for ranking, and tops the chart in the Middle East.

Hong Kong leads the ranking with the likes of Tokyo and Geneva ahead of our local capital. This study pertains to the cost of living including housing but excluding health and education related fields, and places Beirut ahead of major cities such as London, Paris, New York and Zurich. The global study also reveals that Abu Dhabi ranked 17th and Dubai 28th, which is shocking considering these United Arab Emirates are renowned for their expensive living rates. Noting that in 2017 Beirut was ranked 8th worldwide and in 2016 came in 9th, what will the next year bring forth and is it an indication of other economic matters?
