Schoolboy bullied over his dwarfism begs mum for rope to kill himself

    21 february 2020

A distraught mother has shared the painful moment her nine-year-old son with dwarfism asked for a rope to end his life.

Yarraka Bayles shared her son's outburst on social media to show parents and teachers how much damage his bullies have caused. As he was picked up in the car after school Quaden was in floods of tears, telling his mum: 'Give me a rope, I want to kill myself.' The boy also said: 'I just want to stab myself in the heart... I want someone to kill me.'

In the video his mum says: ‘I’ve just picked up my son from school, witnessed a bullying episode, rang the principal and I want people to know – parents, educators, teachers – this is the effect that bullying has.’ Yarraka says she saw another pupil patting Quaden’s head and making fun of his height when she arrived to pick him up. She added: ‘I want people to know how much it is hurting us as a family. ‘I’ve got a son that is suicidal [after] anything that happens at school or in public, which is almost every time we’re in public.’ The clip has been shared more than 134,000 times and has got the attention of some of the biggest stars of Australia’s National Rugby League.

Players from the side Indigenous All Stars invited Quaden to walk onto the pitch with them when they take on New Zealand’s Maori Kiwis at the CBUS Super Stadium on the Gold Coast on Saturday. He received a lovely message of support from South Sydney Rabbitohs’ Latrell Mitchell, who has met Quaden in the past. In a clip posted on Twitter, he said: ‘Hey Quaden. We know you’re going through a hard time right now, but the boys are here, we’ve got your back, we’re here to support you, bud.

‘We want you around, we want you to lead us out at the weekend. It’s going to mean more to us than it will to you.’ Quaden and his mum have also been inundated with supportive messages on social media from strangers and loved ones. People urged the schoolboy to ‘stay strong’ and stressed the importance of parents and educators teaching ‘how terrible the consequences of bullying are’.
