Rafik Hariri University Hospital Sunday announced four new confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Lebanon, bringing the total number of infections to 32.
Friday and Saturday saw the largest one-day jumps in cases of the COVID-19 virus, with six new infections announced on both days.
According to the hospital’s daily report, three of the 32 patients are in critical condition, but the rest are currently stable.
Fifteen people suspected of having the coronavirus left the hospital in the last 24 hours after lab tests came back negative.
Education Minister Tarek Majzoub announced Sunday evening that schools, vocational institutions and universities would remain closed until the evening of March 15.
Friday, the ministerial committee tasked with combating the disease announced a string of measures to limit its spread. The recommended measures included extending the closure of schools, universities and courts and closing entertainment venues such as cinemas and nightclubs.
Earlier that day, Health Minister Hamad Hasan said the virus was spreading more quickly after Lebanon “left the containment phase” and the ministry could no longer confirm the origins of all the infections.
