The world's longest flight between the USA and Singapore is set to return, and this time it is going to be even longer.
Clocking in at an 18 hour flight time, Singapore Airlines' journey between Singapore and Newark airport in New Jersey is already the longest scheduled passenger flight out there, but now they're going to be flying to New York's JFK airport, pushing that distance even further.
So, before it got cancelled because of the pandemic, the flight distance was a gigantic 9,534 miles, but the first flight back since it was all called off on March 23 will travel a full 9,536.5 miles.
In a statement, Singapore Airlines announced that the airport switcheroo was in order to allow them to 'better accommodate a mix of passenger and cargo... in the current operating climate.'
Whilst the passenger numbers are obviously going to plummet, they're anticipating 'significant cargo demand' for all sorts of stuff involving 'pharmaceuticals, e-commence, and technology firms'.
In terms of actual passengers, it's not certain how many will be on board because of the ongoing restrictions in place regrading travel to and from Singapore.
The tiny country is not currently allowing visitors outside of those with a passport, a visa, or from countries like Australia, Vietnam, New Zealand, and Brunei.
Others from places like China, Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea can come in if they're sponsored by a Singaporean company, and only for work.
It'll take off three times each week and there will be 187 economy seats, 24 premium economy seats, and 42 business class seats aboard the Airbus A350-900.
As for the USA, Singapore Airlines has managed to keep the nonstop flights from Changi airport to Los Angeles going during the coronavirus pandemic, and will - they say - 'continue to review its operations to the United States, and assess the growing demand for air travel amid the ongoing recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, before decided to reinstate services to other points in the country.'
