On the occasion of the Italian Design Day concurrently organized in 100 countries in the world, the Italian Trade Agency – ITA Beirut Office, in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Lebanon, celebrated the Italian Design Day 2022, on Wednesday March 23rd at the premises of Intermeuble Gallery Sofil Center – Ashrafieh, in the presence of the Italian Ambassador to Lebanon, Nicoletta Bombardiere, the Italian architect Marco Amosso from Lombardini 22, and representatives from Holcom Group, Intermeuble, Sel & Poivre, and Perspectives.
The Italian Design Day 2022 is an event promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture within the context of the initiatives beIT and Vivere all'Italiana.
The theme for this year's edition is "Re-Generation. Design and new technologies for a sustainable future", which highlights one of the current challenges that design is facing: promoting a transition of lifestyles that combines functionality and well-being with sustainability and reduced environmental impact, re-generating – in theory and in practice – objects and spaces. Today, reusing, mending, renewing and recycling existing materials and products is needed in parallel with the development of new ones: to achieve this goal, dialogue and collaboration between designers, manufacturing companies, research and technological development centers will be increasingly essential in carrying out projects and facilitating their creation. The goal is to conceive new products and new processes based on sustainable technologies that respond to the concept of circular economy.
The round table was moderated by ITA Director, Mr. Claudio Pasqualucci, and starred Marco Amosso from Lombardini 22 as key speaker, along with Ambassador Bombardiere, Mr. Mario Haddad, head of the Italian Academy for Gastronomy in Lebanon, Mr. Nicolas Moussallem, Designer of David and Nicolas, and Mr. Karim Nader, Founder of Karim Nader Studio.
Discussions were lively animated by the participation of renowned interior designers, architects, consultants, entrepreneurs, media and television representatives, who were invited to inaugurate the Italian Design Day and the exhibition of iconic pieces that represent the excellence of Italian Design.
The event ended up with a guided tour during which local representatives presented the history of the iconic pieces on display.
In 2021, Italy was the leading furniture supplier to Lebanon with a 34% market share and the leading European lighting supplier to Lebanon with a 16% market share.
