London: Speculations are rife that Adele has been cast as iconic musician Dusty Springfield in a forthcoming biopic, based on the late singer's life.

The film is said to be "in the early stages of development" but shooting could start as soon as early next year (2014). The script is being written by David Stenn, who is known for his work on Boardwalk Empire and The L Word.

Adele has previously spoken about her admiration for Springfield, saying the late singer "put English women on the map, which I love". Springfield, who released 14 studio albums between 1964 and 1995, passed away in 1999 following a battle with breast cancer.
