'Sakker El Dekkene,' the Lebanese NGO that fight corruption and engages people in its action, participated in the Summer Camp for Teenagers. The camp, organized by the Sustainable Democracy Center (SDC), took place during the month of August in the scenery of Ehden.
Within the framework of the camp's educational program, 'Sakker El Dekkene' provided educational activities involving all participants in the fight against corruption. 'Sakker El Dekkene' delivered four sessions in total. The first two sessions tackled the subject of corruption through informal educational techniques with adolescents participating in edifying games aimed to develop an understanding of the notions of integrity and corruption. The last two sessions, based on an interactive approach, addressed the subject through Forum Theatre where different groups used different examples and scenarios in order to understand the dynamics and fight against the culture of corruption.
'Sakker el Dekkene' was also able, through these activities, to barricade the young to face the issue in a creative and interactive fashion, spread awareness, understand corruption and its effects in their daily life, and encourage the young to fight against it. In addition, 'Sakker El Dekkene' provided training in how to interact with citizens and stimulate them to report corruption cases that they may be implicated in or are witness to, such as bribery, fraud, theft, the exploitation of authority or influence, etc.
SED's objectives were to raise awareness and encourage the young to fight against corruption as it is an impediment to the proper functioning of public institutions and democracy at large. These activities fall under a wider scope that aims to launch a debate on a national level and initiate change. Every citizen can refuse corruption and report it through the NGO's website www.sakkera.com, its smart phone App ('sakkera' on iOS and Android) and its hotline (76 80 80 80).
