    The sound barrier will be broken in coming weeks

    The Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner will attempt to become the first human to break the sound barrier unaided by a vehicle.

    Daredevil sky-diver Felix Baumgartner was all set to plummet from space today but it is postponed to the coming weeks...and dive straight into the record books - or die trying.

    The 43-year-old former military parachutist is scheduled to jump from a balloon-hoisted capsule 23 miles (37 kilometers) above Roswell. He wants to break a record that was set in 1960 by Joe Kittinger, who jumped from an open gondola at an altitude of 19.5 miles (31km). Kittinger's speed of 614mph was just shy of breaking the sound barrier.
