The world's most expensive smile, a gold denture encrusted with diamonds, was displayed in Dubai recently, possibly warranting its owner a world record.

Dr Majd Naji, director of Liberty Dental Clinic for cosmetic dentistry, which fabricated the cosmetic frontal denture, said: "We acquired authenticity and clarity certificates for the gold and the diamonds used in the denture from the International Gemological Institute in Belgium. The denture was fabricated in full in Dubai. Ten grams of 24-carat gold were used in addition to 160 round-shaped diamonds that totalled 2.5 carats."

He added that the denture was expected to receive a certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records for most expensive smile.

"When the people of the UAE received the title of world's happiest people, the clinic thought about making the world's most expensive smile and to offer parts of the proceeds from it to charity," Dr Naji said. "Dh100,000 of the dentures' price will be donated to a children's charity."

The cosmetic denture was priced at US$153,000 (Dh562,000). It is removable and can only be used as an accessory. It cannot be used for eating.

The denture can be ready after only two sessions and the procedure does not require any drilling or filling of teeth.

Dr Naji said another similar denture is in the making at the moment and part of its proceeds will also go to charity.
