Liza Lou is an an American artist whose claim to fame is her painstaking work creating large sculptures out of glass beads. Her first major piece was the room-sized sculture,Kitchen, which was debuted at New York's New Museum of Contemporary Art.
Known for her Olympian endurance, Kitchen took Lou five years and millions of glass beads to create. Each bead was paintsakingly attacked to the foundation. The result is a magical 3D mosaic that draws the viewer in and reveals itself in new ways as your gaze moves closer
Lou has since taken part in exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, among many others.
In 2002 she won the prestigious John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation fellowship.
