Britains cheapest home: Couple buy house for only 1$

    12 march 2015
A young couple have bagged Britain's cheapest house after buying their first home for just £1.

Rebecca Dennis and Chris Benn purchased their first home together for less than the price of two first class stamps, and have spent the last four months doing it up.

It's now believed to be worth £60,000 and the pair are on the property ladder eight years earlier than the average Brit. For more on how to get on the housing ladder, read here.

Rebecca, 21, from Stoke-on-Trent said: "It's a dream come true to have a house of our own.

"The £1 price tag is a special bonus."

Rebecca and Chris, 22, were thrilled when they landed a place on Stoke-on-Trent City Council's home ownership scheme which offers residents the chance to buy a house for £1.

After they paid in their initial single digit deposit, the council invested £30,000 in the dilapidated two bedroom mid-terrace.

Rebecca and Chris will pay the loan back over the next ten years until they own the house outright.
