In the early morning hours of Thursday, May 28, Beirut's iconic rooftop nightclub SKYBAR was destroyed due to a massive fire.
A beacon of Lebanon's summer nightlife, SKYBAR was set to open on June 12 for the 2015 season, but the fire reduced the acclaimed nightspot to ashes, effectively impending SKYBAR from opening at all this year.
Since SKYBAR hadn't opened yet, and since the fire took place before dawn, there were thankfully no casualties.
Sky Management, which owns and manages SKYBAR, is greatly saddened by this tragic event.
Sky Management would especially like to thank its many friends, fans and supporters, who called, wrote and got in touch with the company to express sympathy with regards to this terrible loss. In addition, Sky Management plans to reallocate its staff, ensuring that the employees who were set to work at SKYBAR this summer, many of whom support large families, are gainfully employed at other company outlets.
----------------------------Social media message fro Sky Management CEO that was communicated today:
Dear SKYBAR friends,
Our summer season was due to begin tonight as we launch Summer 2015. Unfortunately, as most of you know, a fire broke loose in the early morning hours of Thursday May 28 that has reduced most of our venue to ashes. The damages did not only prevent us from opening as scheduled tonight, but they will strip us for the season altogether. I regret to inform you that our doors will remain closed this summer season.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you, family and friends, in Lebanon and all around the world, for your messages and support. Your love motivates us to move forward and keep walking :)The only fire in the sky, is your love that fills our hearts...
Thank you!Chafic el Khazen
