Port of Beirut won the Gold Award as the best modern information system for ports, granted by the World Organization of the harbours and ports (International Association of Ports & Harbours - IAPH) during its annual conference held in Hamburg- Germany, on 06/04/2015.
Port of Beirut announced in a statement, that it had participated, as a key member of the Organization, in a Conference in Sydney, Australia in 2014, and then competed with a number of ports over identified topics in 2015, due to the following form:
- Information technology IT Award Number of ports: 13.
- Communications Port Communications Award Number of ports: 8.
- Environment Port Environment Award Number of ports: 7.
The statement said that the harbor has chosen to enter the competition for the information technology system (IT), offering a complete file describing its achievements in the field of IT, coupled with its operational achievements that led to double its movement three times in a period not exceeding five years (the number of containers handled increased from 400 000 to more than one million TEU), also presented to its customers recently in terms of information system, replacing the manual processes so all operations would take place through its Web site, without troubling to come to the window administration.
After the submission of the file to the IAPH, in which was offered all applications used within information system (Port Organization & Management system - POMS), a specialized committee of the Organization (Trade Facilitation & Port Community System Committee) researched necessary and communications which led to the choice of this System as the best information system to serve customers.
Bieurt Harbor received the Gold Award through representatives of the harbor in Hamburg, during the conference, attended by 950 delegates from all countries of the world. The Silver Award went to the port of Barcelona in Spain (Portic Barcelona), and bronze award to the port (JadeWeserPort) in Germany.
The organization IAPH is a global organization with order of 315 a port body from various countries of the world.
