In the battle of the social networks Instagram has just dealt a significant blow to its rivals.The photo sharing app has announced it now has more than 400 million users who post around 80 million images every day. This means the site has leapfrogged Twitter, which had 316 million users at the last count, and makes it more popular than Pinterest and Snapchat. 

In a blog post announcing the milestone, Instagram said: 'When Instagram launched nearly five years ago, 400 million seemed like a distant dream.'While milestones like this are important, what really excites us is the way that visual communication makes the world feel a little bit smaller to every one of us.'
