HE IS KNOWN for his lavish lifestyle.
For his $1 million-plus wedding there were four helicopters, a slew of luxury cars, a star-studded entertainment line-up and the closure of an entire street.
So it came of something as a surprise that Auburn’s former ex-mayor decided to celebrate his 30th birthday in relatively low-key fashion on Sunday.
“How the mighty have fallen, Sad Salim Mehajer’s Budget Birthday” was the headline on New Idea’s article, which was accompanied by this photo of the birthday boy:

“Three months after throwing a lavish bash for his wife, Salim Mehajer blew out the candles on his low-key 30th in a lonely snap with his birthday cake,” the Daily Mail reported.

While it has to be noted that that is a fabulously over-the-top birthday cake he has right there, it is indeed a far cry from the extravagant party he threw for wife Aysha when she turned 30 in March.
The party apparently cost $50,000 and had a guest appearance from US rapper Tyga.

The low-key celebration may be a reflection of the current mood in the Mehajer camp.
The controversial builder and property developer is appearing this week at a public inquiry examining decisions taken at Auburn Council, to which he was elected in 2012. The council was sacked in May as it merged with Holroyd.
The extravagant wedding party outside their Lidcombe mansion drew attention to Mehajer’s apparent wealth and his role at Auburn Council, where a number of fellow property developers were making decisions to allegedly benefit their business interests.
His birthday comes just a few days after the public inquest revealed he was never granted permission to land the four helicopters at a Sydney oval during his wedding.
Mehajer said he has “zero regrets” about the ostentatious wedding that brought his own and his council’s dealings under scrutiny.
“(I) most definitely have zero regrets. If I could go back in time and change anything there would be not one thing I would change,” Mehajer told The Daily Telegraph.
He is also currently defending federal charges of electoral fraud relating to the 2012 Auburn Council elections, while a suspension for failing to declare business interests at Auburn Council was overturned in the NSW Supreme Court this year.[NewsAU]
